FOR THOSE IN PERIL REVIEW...

Hey Lovelies,

From the moment this film starts up until the end, ‘For Those In Peril’ is a gripping masterpiece that displays the true power of Scottish cinema!

For a directorial debut, Paul Wright has created a real and intriguing piece of cinema, which takes you back and forth in the mind of everyone on screen, as they suffer the consequences of the accident. It feels like a documentary instead of a film that causes it to be compelling and interesting right up until the end.

The darkness of it adds mystery and the flashback scenes add a weird utopian style to the film. It is an interesting film, adding a whole different set of emotions for the audience to experience as the plot goes along. It is powerful and brings back that classic UK cinematic vibe. Wright has managed to make his first film an epic classic, which film festivals were sure to love.

It also highlights the incredible talent of George MacKay, who gives the performance of a lifetime in the film and has managed to create a promising career from it. His acting is believable and undeniable real, that audiences feel his emotions throughout his time on screen. It is a talent that many actors struggle with in their first couple of films, but MacKay’s performance in this is amazing and as the only survivor, his story is the most interesting.

As well the portrayal of a mother, who is desperate to help her son, is heart wrenching and made it harder for audiences to control emotions, due to her natural mother instincts.

However one aspect of the film that made it confusing and a little bit hard to view, was the constant voices of people that you couldn’t see, as it was hard to imagine who was expressing certain emotions about the characters. It also created distractions at times when the audiences should be watching the clips, causing it to clash at certain moments.

Overall Wright and MacKay have created a gritty Scottish drama that will leave audiences guessing and interested right up until the end and will be remembered for many years.

Therefore I am giving the film…
4 Stars
