Good Afternoon Lovelies,

With not long to go until award season 2017 sadly ends, Empire Magazine are making sure that the party continues throughout the year, as they celebrate their upcoming award show with an exciting choice of films and TV shows that we need to watch this year.

To mark spring 2017 with these beauties will definitely make those warmer months a whole lot more entertaining. I will admit lovelies that I did not write the list because I think the writer deserves the credit, but I hope that these inspire you to get watching, as much as they have inspired me lovelies. Enjoy...

Empire’s Ones To Watch – Movies

Kong: Skull Island: Cinema’s most iconic monster returns. Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson and Samuel L Jackson lead an all-star cast marooned on his island who discover, to their dismay, that there’s more than just a 100ft gorilla to worry about. Release: March 10.

Free Fire: Ben Wheatley, one of Britain’s most exciting directors, takes aim at creating the ultimate movie shootout in a Seventies-set thriller featuring an all-star cast. Release: March 31.

The Handmaiden: A South Korean period thriller from Park Chan-wook that may just be his best film yet. And that’s not something you say lightly about the director of Oldboy. Release: April 14.

Guardians of The Galaxy 2: Crammed with action, jokes and Eighties tunes, the first film launched Marvel’s little-known team into the stratosphere. This has the potential to be even bigger and better than the first. Release: April 28.

Alien Covenant: Ridley Scott’s Prometheus was an Alien prequel almost entirely devoid of Aliens. But Alien: Covenant is bringing back the acid-blooded creatures that have terrified us for decades, as well as introducing a new monster. Release: May 19.

Empire’s Ones To Watch – TV

Iron Fist: Following Daredevil, Jessica Jones and Luke Cage, Iron Fist is the final of Netflix’s four Marvel superhero series. Not familiar with the character? He’s a billionaire, a Buddhist monk and a kung-fu expert. So just your average, everyday guy. Release: March 17.

Fargo: A new season and another brand new cast for the superlative black-comedy crime drama, this time led by Ewan McGregor who’s playing not one, but two characters. Release: TBC – spring.

Veep: Can any American political satire hope to be as strange as the current reality? Only time will tell, but if any show can do it, Veep is the one. We’re confident. Release: TBC – spring.

Doctor Who: Not only is it Peter Capaldi’s final series as The Doctor, but it’s also Steven Moffat’s last as showrunner. And both men will want to leave the BBC’s flagship sci-fi on a high. Release: April 15.

House of Cards: The return of Kevin Spacey as President Frank Underwood — a nefarious schemer who, by the end of last season, seemed like he could finally have been exposed. Will he be able to fight off the controversy surrounding him? The tension is almost unbearable.  Release: May 30.

The Three Empire Awards will take place on 19 March 2017 at a brand new venue – Camden’s Roundhouse in London. The iconic awards show will celebrate the best in film and TV, voted for by fans, held at a star-studded event attended by some of the biggest and best-loved names in entertainment lovelies. Look out for more news on the awards show soon!
