Good Morning Lovelies, 

I am going to start this review with a big statement! I am currently more a Marvel fan than a DC fan. Don’t get me wrong I love them both and would watch may things from them, especially after Wonder Woman (anyone else girl crushing?), but there is just something about it since Nolan left that doesn’t hook me in so much.

However, there is an exception to this! The brilliant Supergirl. A show that I never imagined I would fall for, but have done hook, line and sinker for it, which is why I am so happy to see the second season released today on DVD, Blu-ray and digitally.

Carrying on from where the first season left off, the show sees Supergirl facing some of her biggest demons, including a cyborg Superman and a battle to end all battles in the season finale. Supergirl, real name Kara, became her own person in this season, as she explored what it really meant to be a superhero to those around her. With the help of the real Superman, Kara learns how to deal with her actions and the publics need for her.

In America the show made a big move channel wise to The CW. This move allowed for more explanations and character building for everyone on screen, as it headed into making a relationship with the Arrowverse characters. However, there are a few problems with this that let the second season down. With the ease of using these characters, explanations on how they actually work together fail to be brought over and episodes can be spent trying to work this out.

It was exciting to see new cast/character additions, including the best of the lot Mon-El, who allowed for Kara to explore her true worth more. Yet, it would have been nice to have seen more context surrounding who they were and what they meant to the story. Let’s hope that this is a clever plot twist that will give audiences further explanations or whole episodes with the answers in the future.

And more fun, because the loss of Calista Flockhart this season was definitely felt. The missing CatCo figure loomed heavy on the show and whilst they tried to replace it, the second season still felt sad without Flockhart’s character.

Overall, the second season was a great season for change. A new TV station meant new locations. These locations were explored by new characters and these new characters brought new stories. Let’s just hope though that the third season now uses these new ideas, characters and places to bring a familiar but brilliant new series.
